An Escape Room is a live-action adventure game where players select a themed room and must solve a series of puzzles, riddles and challenges to "escape" within a set time limit, usually an hour.
No, for safety reasons, the doors are never locked (as they don't even have locks - LOL). It used to be in the early days of Escape Rooms, the only goal was to get out of a locked room. Over the years, it was decided this was not only unsafe, it limits the amount of engaging stories offered. The rooms have evolved, and now to "escape" you simply need to solve all the puzzles before the time runs out. For example, you may be asked to find an object or figure out the mystery of a story to end the game. The term "escape room" has stuck and is how people refer to the experience across the world.
Due to the presence of stairs, we do not have direct wheelchair access at this time. Any inconvenience is deeply regretted. If there's anything else that can be done to assist, please don't hesitate to ask, we are more than willing to help.
Most groups make a fun date night of Escape Room bookings by either eating before or after their experience. We would be happy to give some restaurant suggestions over the phone (530) 613-8375, so you can find something within walking distance if needed. Downstairs is separately owned, The Vault, with everyone's favorite classic arcade games, duck pin bowling, a thoughtfully chosen selection of crowd-pleasing bites (perfect fuel for the fun), and a well stocked bar, to begin and extend your date night in wonderful downtown Auburn.
While escaping is the goal, it is not the only measure of fun. Many players enjoy the experience even if they don't escape, as it still provides a fun challenge and can be a learning experience. Asking for clues is very common and encouraged for those having played less than three rooms. Although rare, a few daring teams have been known to decline standard clues in order to book the same room and finish at a later date.
Most Escape Rooms are not designed to be scary, though some may incorporate elements of suspense or mild thrills. If you have concerns about a specific room, it's best to inquire about it's theme and content beforehand. The designs of Hour in the Tower displays a slight hint of Haunted House influencing. If you can make it up the tower stairs you can brave the rooms ha ha ha.
Escape Rooms don't typically require specialized knowledge, skills or tools. The puzzles and challenges are designed to be solvable through observation, teamwork, logical and often times, creative thinking. Everything you need will be provided. Tools such as screwdrivers and pocket knives are strictly prohibited.
It's like the fastest hour of your life as you mentally and physically rush to figure out the challenges in time. Your adrenaline may spike, and some may find it's the most fun type of entertainment and become instantly hooked. It's a great idea to reserve a table at a restaurant either before or after your experience and talk it over with friends and family. Downtown Auburn has a wonderful selection of decadent dining establishments within walking distance.
Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended, as you will be moving around and potentially interacting with the room's environment.
Hour in the Tower requires at least 24 hours notice to reschedule or offer a refund or credit. Due to the unique nature of Escape Rooms only being booked by one group for a particular time, it is often extremely difficult to fill that same time slot with another group on short notice.
Booking in advance is highly recommended to secure your preferred time and ensure availability. There is limited availability to book a room a few hours in advance, especially outside of normal business hours of operation. If you have any questions, please call (530) 613-8375 to answer any questions. Walk ins are always welcome, granted there is adequate time to be briefed and play. All rooms are private so groups of unknown people in the same room is avoided, for your enjoyment.
All groups are instructed to arrive 15 minutes early before their reservation time for orientation. During this briefing moment, waivers for each participant must be signed, and helpful room information is given, all of which take a little time to complete. At Hour in the Tower, the rooms run exactly at the time scheduled. If one or more of your party arrives late, we cannot make accommodations by starting late, as all of the later scheduled time slots will then be late, throwing off the entire day. If you desire, the people present can begin, and when your teammates arrive we can try our best to usher them in, after they have finished orientation. Please be advised that the game master will then be tied up helping your teammates and not be able to be as attentive of the needs of the players in the room, until all in the party are united.
